Why is Wyze Outdoor Camera Not Charging?

1. Wrong battery cable

Using the wrong battery cable is the main culprit of Wyze outdoor Camera not charging

When you utilize the incorrect battery cables it can result in:

    1. Overheating cables.
    2. Overheating devices.
    3. Possible battery damage from overcharging.

However, this is infrequent since most batteries contain separate charge controllers, but inexpensive devices might not.

Fix – Make sure that you are using the Wyze-supplied charging cable and Wyze Base Station to charge your camera.

2. Wrong charger

Wyze Cam Outdoor requires a minimum of 5v/2A to charge properly.

Using the wrong battery charger or different charger from the one recommended by Wyze can cause all kinds of complications.

For instance, when you use the wrong battery charger and the voltage is too high, it can damage your Wyze outdoor camera’s battery.

If the voltage is too low, it won’t charge you’re your outdoor camera at all.

And if the cable connector is the wrong type, it might not fit into your Wyze Outdoor camera port, or it might not have a good connection.

Fix – Test your charger.

If you have a known functional adapter that is 5A/2VA, you can use it to test with to rule out the cable as the charger as the possible culprit responsible for the Wyze Outdoor camera not charging.

DC 5V/2A, indicates that the input voltage, to recharge the battery is 5 volts of direct current. 2A is the amount of amperage that is advised to recharge the battery.

This does not imply that a transformer of lesser amperage won’t charge your Wyze Outdoor camera, the charger would just take more time than normal.

3. Charging port debris

Fragments of sand, dust, broken pins can get stuck in your charging port and stop your Wyze outdoor camera from charging as it should.

Fix – Check your charging port.

Examine the charging port for any obstructions before placing the USB cable securely into the charging port.

Try cleaning your charging port by lightly releasing sand with a toothpick first.

If your Wyze Outdoor camera charging port is still not working, try using compressed air.

An air compressor can eliminate sand, dust, or other hard-to-see debris.

Get rid of broken pins with a tweezer and replace charging port

4. Base station issues

A Wyze Cam Outdoor must be connected to a Base Station to work.

A Wyze Base Station is the communication center for your Wyze Cam Outdoor and it is compulsory for Wyze Outdoor camera to talk to your network.

Fix – Look at your Base Station power connection.

Check to verify whether your Base Station is plugged into power and turned on.

If it is disconnected from the power cable and turned off, connect it and turn it on.

Here is the path to follow

  1. Click on Camera name
  2. Select Wyze Base Station
  3. Tap on Next.
  4. Plug one end of the included power supply cable into the base station, and the other end into a power outlet.
  5. The status light will be solid yellow.

5. Confirm the cable connections.

Verify your Wyze Solar Panel is securely connected to your Wyze Cam Outdoor using the included power adapter and cables.

Ensure that the camera is turned on and has power.

Get rid of the rubber cover on the back of the camera and toggle the power button from left (off) to right (on).

Check that the solar panel is getting direct sunlight.

Normally, the best angle is about 30º, but mount and angle it as required to get the optimal effect.

You should be aware that you cannot charge the camera with the solar panel at night.

    1. Wipe the surface of the solar panel using a soft damp cloth.
    2. Check the camera’s status light.

The Wyze Outdoor Camera will flash red to indicate that it is charging if using solar panels.

6. Battery is draining too quickly

If your Wyze Cam Outdoor v1/v2 is losing battery life quickly, and needs to be charged often then you have a charging problem.

Fix – Reposition your camera in an area with less movement.

If you have enabled the Motion Detection you need to situate your Wyze Outdoor camera in a low traffic area.

This is because the more activity that is recognized by your Motion Detection, the more the battery energy is expended.

So, you need to reduce the lowering of battery life by placing it in an area that has less movement.

7. Look over your outdoor camera’s Events and delete some of them.

The Events tab/button is located at the bottommost part of the apps home page.

It contains all events from all WYZE cameras associated with the account you used to logon to the app including your Wyze outdoor Camera.

You can further filter the events by clicking the small filter icon at the top. These events are all saved in the cloud.

An excessive amount of event videos could result in faster battery drain.

You need to note that the more videos that are recorded into your timeline, the more it shortens battery life and you have to keep charging over and over again.

The fix is to look over camera events and delete some of them

  1. Go through your recording settings and reduce their number.

Persistent Time Lapse videos and Scheduled Recordings can affect your battery life.

To set up a Time Lapse video

  1. In the Wyze app, click on your Wyze Cam Outdoor.
  2. Tap the More tab . . . below the Live Stream,
  3. Then select Time-Lapse.
  4. On the Customize tab, choose a Start Time, Recording Duration, and Interval. Or select one of the Presets, like Sunrise, Clouds, or Flower Blossom.
  5. Click on Set to schedule your Time-Lapse.

Make sure you don’t set up too many time lapse videos as it puts a strain the battery and makes it get used up too fast and you have to charge it repeatedly.

To set up Scheduled Recordings on your Wyze Outdoor camera

  1. In the Wyze app, click on your Wyze Cam.
  2. Tap the Settings gear on the top right.
  3. Click Event Recording
  4. Select Schedule.

Choose the type of time interval you want e.g. Want detected Events to be recorded all the time? …

  1. Press on which Events you want to trigger a recording. …
  2. Your changes will be saved automatically.
