The RangeXTD Wi-Fi extender is popular among users because of its powerful ability to extend Wi-Fi signals to otherwise unreachable corners of a building.
The Wi-Fi extender also has an app which allows you to customise settings on the device to your preferences.
What’s more, it has an Ethernet port where you can directly connect devices such as your gaming console, smart TV, Blu-ray player, and streaming devices, for even stronger Internet connection.
If you have just purchased your RangeXTD Wi-Fi extender and are looking to set it up, or your current setup is not working for you, then follow the guide in this article to properly set up your Wi-Fi extender and get it working for you.
How to Setup RangeXTD Wi-Fi Extender
Before going into how to set up RangeXTD Wi-Fi extender, I would first like to make it known that this device can be set up in 3 modes including:
- Repeater or extender mode – This is the purpose of this article. In this mode, RangeXTD is used to extend Internet coverage in areas with weak signal.
- Access point Mode – This is used to provide wireless capabilities on routers that do not have wireless capabilities
- Router mode – This makes use of the RangeXTD to provide Internet access for mobile devices in homes or offices that use DSL lines or cable modem.
In this article, we will be setting RangeXTD in extender mode to extend an existing WIFI network’s reach.
Method 1 – Via the WPS Button
This is the easiest and quickest way to configure RangeXTD Wi-Fi extender. However, you need to first confirm that your wireless router supports WPS. Check the user manual of your wireless router or check on the Internet to see if your router model supports WPS mode. Then:
- Plug the RangeXTD wireless extender into a wall socket and switch it on
- Make sure that you see at least 2 LED indicator levels on their repeater. If it is less than two, then find a new position. The LED indicator level indicates the strength of wi-fi signals on the repeater, so place is as far away from the router as possible, but close enough to still get at least 2 indicator levels
- Set the mode to Repeater on the Wi-Fi extender
- Press the WPS button on the Wi-Fi extender. The WPS LED will fast-flash for approximately 2 minutes.
- Within these two minutes, you must press the WPS button of your wireless router for two to three seconds.
This will cause the RangeXTD Wi-Fi extender to connect automatically to your wireless router and copy the wireless key SSID and password of your router
- Wait one minute and then connect to the new RangeXTD Wi-Fi extender SSID
Method 2 – Via The Web Browser
The RangeXTD Wi-Fi extender can also be set up using the web browser. Follow the steps below to set up your Wi-Fi extender and get it working properly:
Using WIFI
- Select repeater mode on the side of the RangeXTD unit
- Plug the Wi-Fi extender into the most suitable wall outlet. Make sure to plug directly into a wall outlet and not into an extension.
- Also, make sure that you have strong Wi-Fi signals. If the W LAN LED display indicates less than two bars, try another position until you get at least two LED indicators
- On your computer or mobile device, search for RangeXTD in your list of available networks and select it to connect to the network
- Now, open your web browser and type 192.168.7.234 in the address bar. Please note that this address will not work unless you are connected to the RangeXTD network.
- When prompted for password on the login page, enter admin as password
- Under the wizard section, click on repeater. You will find this at the top left corner of the screen.
- Next, a list of Wi-Fi connections will be displayed on the screen. Choose the Wi-Fi network that you wish to extend using RangeXTD.
- The list of available Wi-Fi networks may take a while to populate. This is normal behaviour. Just wait a few moments for the networks to display and then select your desired network.
- You will be prompted to enter the password for your Wi-Fi network. Enter the correct password and click Apply. Be sure that you carefully enter the right password before clicking on Apply, if not, the connection will not work. I always recommend typing out the Wi-Fi password in clear text on a notepad and then copying and pasting it into the bar on the web browser.
- Finally, you will be redirected to a web page. Wait a few more moments and then click on your Wi-Fi networks. You will see you RangeXTD Wi-Fi extender SSID with No Internet displayed under it. Wait a few more moments until you see Connected.

Note:
- To avoid manually connecting to the WIFI extender every time, change the SSID of the RangeXTD Wi-Fi extender to the original SSID of the Wi-Fi network that you are extending. So, if your current wi-fi network SSID is named Family, then change the RangeXTD SSID during setup to Family as well.
This will make your device to always connect automatically through the RangeXTD Wi-Fi extender whenever it is in range.
You will see this name change option when you use the browser method. You will find it on the page where you select the Wi-Fi network that you want to extend, on the setup wizard. On repeater SSID, change the SSID to the same name as your WIFI network SSID.
- If during the browser setup method, you are unable to initially find the RangeXTD extender SSID, then you need to first reset the device to factory settings following the steps below:
- Use a pin to press and hold the reset button on the body of the extender device for 10 seconds until all indicators turn off.
- Unplug the RangeXTD WIFI extender device immediately the indicators turn off and wait for 10 seconds
