How to Delete All Codes on Schlage Lock

There are occasions where you may want to delete a single user code or even all user codes that you created, either because you feel security may have been breached or you do not want someone to have access to your property anymore. You may have even lost your Schlage lock programming code.

So, in this article, I will be showing you how to delete user codes on a Schlage lock either one by one or all at once.

The good thing about Schlage locks is that the method for deleting user codes is essentially the same for all models. So, the steps that I will outline in this article will work for you, whatever the model of Schlage you are using. Where there are exceptions, i will also make this clear.

Let’s get right to it.

How to Delete All Codes on Schlage Lock At Once

Before continuing, make sure you have your lock’s default access codes available. To delete all user codes on a Schlage lock at once, follow the steps below:

  1. Press the Schlage button at the top of your lock or at the top of the touchscreen if yours has one
  2. Enter the 6-digit programming or admin code
  3. Press 6.
  4. Enter your programming code again.
  5. A green check mark indicates success along with 2 blinks + 2 beeps

The programming code can be found on the Schlage lock’s user guide or on the inside of the Schlage lock on the wall. If you have changed this programming code but can no longer remember it, you would have to reset your Schlage to factory settings.

Unlike deleting user codes, the method to reset Schlage locks to factory settings differs across models. I have written a detailed article on how to reset all the different Schlage lock models to factory settings.

Note about deleting all user codes:

  • This process will remove all user codes from the lock. User codes cannot be retrieved after they are deleted.
  • Deleting user codes will, however, not disable modes such as Vacation Mode on the lock.

How to Delete All Codes on Schlage Lock One By One

There are other scenarios where you may want to delete one or multiples user codes, but retain the rest. In that case, you would have to delete the user codes one by one. Follow the steps below to delete individual user codes on Schlage locks.

For Schlage locks with keypad or touchscreen:

1. Press the Schlage button at the top of your lock’s touchscreen or keypad.

2. Enter the 6-digit programming code. You will hear 3 beeps with an orange indicator flashing.

3. Next, press 2 and wait for the beeps again

4. Enter the user code you would like to delete and wait for the beeps again

5. Then, enter that code that you want to delete again.

6. A green check on the Schlage button or touchscreen indicates deletion success.

7. If you want to delete another user code, simply go back to step 4 to delete more codes

If your Schlage lock has a touchscreen (BE489, BE499, FE789), you could also delete user codes one by one using the touchscreen. However, the method is different from using the keypad. Follow the steps below to delete user codes one by one, using the touchscreen:

  1. Enter your 6-digit programming code on the touchscreen
  2. Next, enter the user code that you want to delete
  3. Press the lock icon with an X on it to delete the code
  4. Enter the same user code again to confirm delete
  5. You will see a message stating that the delete is successful. You can then press the Home icon to exit the setup window.

How to Add New User Codes to Schlage Lock

There are different ways to add new user codes on Schlage locks. For most locks, it is generally the same. But the smart locks have additional methods you can use such as the Home app or even third-party apps.

For Schlage locks with keypad/touchscreen:

1. Press the Schlage button at the top of your lock’s touchscreen or keypad.

2. Enter the 6-digit programming code. You will hear 3 beeps with an orange indicator flashing.

3. Next, press 1 and wait for the beeps again

4. Enter the user code you would like to add and wait for the beeps again

5. Then, enter that code that you want to add again.

6. A green check on the Schlage button or touchscreen indicates addition success.

7. If you want to add another user code, simply go back to step 4 to add more codes

If your Schlage lock has a touchscreen (BE489, BE499, FE789), you could also add user codes one by one using the touchscreen. However, the method is different from using the keypad. Follow the steps below to add user codes, using the touchscreen:

Enter your 6-digit programming code on the touchscreen

Next, enter the user code that you want to add

Press the Home icon to add the code

Enter the same user code again to confirm addition

You will see a message stating that the addition is successful. You can then press the Home icon to exit the setup window.

Add new user codes when the lock is only connected to the Schlage Home app via Bluetooth:

  1. Make sure that you are within Bluetooth range with the lock
  2. Then, tap the icon in the lower-right corner, which looks like two people.
  3. Next, select Access Codes and tap the + symbol in the upper-right corner.
  4. Give the code a name, then enter new access code that you want to add
  5. Finally, select the type of code you are adding. That is, Always vs Temporary vs Recurring, then tap on Save

Please note that when you connect the lock to WIFI, then you will need an active Wi-Fi connection to add, delete, or edit access codes.

Add new user to Schlage Encode WIFI Deadbolt using the Schlage Home app:

  1. Open the Schlage Home app
  2. Tap the icon of two people in the bottom right-hand corner and make sure that Access Codes is highlighted.
  3. Tap the + icon in the top right-hand corner
  4. Give the code a name and then enter the new access code that you want to assign.
  5. Select Save. You can then send the code via text message or email.

More Things To Note About Adding and Deleting Codes, And General Programming on Schlage Locks

  • Manual programming is disabled after your lock is programmed using a compatible smart home app. If you manually program your lock and choose to later link your lock to an app, all manually programmed user codes and the programming code are deleted.
  • If your Schlage Connect is enrolled in a compatible smart home hub, follow instructions provided by that hub to manage your codes via the smart home hub app.
