How do you go about changing the programming code on a Schlage Encode Lock? Below I will be going over how to change the programming code on a Schlage Encode Lock as well as how to do a factory reset if need be. 

How to Change the Programming Code on a Schlage Encode Lock

The first thing to remember when owning the Schlage Code Lock is that there is the programming code and the user codes.

The user’s codes are a 4-digit code that you use to unlock your Schlage Encode Lock. The programming code is a 6-digit code that you use to set up and program your Schlage Encode Lock.

Do not worry if you have not set up a personal programming code. There is a default programming code that you can find in the Schlage manual. If you need to change the 6-digit programming code follow the steps below:

1. Enter the 6-digit programming code (use the default programming code if you have not set a personal programming code). You will see the orange light blink 3 times and beep 3 times. 
2. Press the Schlage button. The keypad will turn blue. 
3. Press the 3 button. You will see the orange light blink 3 times and beeps 3 times. 
4. Enter the new personal 6-digit programming code. Wait until you see the orange light blink 3 times and beep 3 times. 
5. Re-enter the new personal 6-digit programming code. You will see a green light and a long beep signaling that the new programming code is set. 

1. Delete the Code You Want to Change

There are some user codes that you might want to delete or change. You will want to delete the old user code to change it to a new user code.

You can set the new users to anywhere from 4 to 8 digits, with that being said all user codes must be the same amount of digits. Setting the user’s codes to 4 digits is the most common way for the Schlage Encode Lock.

If you do not know how to delete a user code you want to change on your Schlage Encode Lock follow these steps below:

1. Enter the 6-digit programming code. Wait until you see the light blink 3 times and hear a beep 3 times. 
2. Press the Schlage button, the keypad will turn blue. 
3. Press the 2 button, you will see the 3 blinking orange lights and hear 3 beeps. 
4. Enter the 4-digit user code that you want to delete. You will see the orange light blink 3 times and hear 3 heels.
5. Re-enter the 4-digit user code you want to delete. 
6. You will see one green light and a long beep indicating that the user code has been deleted.  

2. Add a New User Code

Now you will want to add a new user code for your Schlage Encode Lock. If you do not know how to add a new user code on your Schlage Encode Lock follow these steps below:

1. Enter the 6-digit programming code, and wait until you see the orange light blink 3 times and beep 3 times. 
2. Press the Schlage button, the keypad will turn blue. 
3. Press 1 on the keypad, and wait for the orange light to blink 3 times and beep 3 times. 
4. Enter the 4-digit new user code, you will see the orange light blink 3 times and beep 3 times. 
5. Re-enter the new 4-digit user code, you will see one green light flash and hear one long beep. 

How to Change a User Code Length on Schlage Encode 

There is a way that you can change the length of the user code on your Schlage Encode Lock. You can make the Schlage Encode Lock user code 6 to 8 digits long.

Though you will have to make each user code the same length. If you do not know how to change the length of the user code on your Schlage Encode Lock follow these steps:

1. Enter the programming code on the Schlage Encode Lock keypad. 
2. Press and hold the number you want to change your user code length to. For example, if you want the new user codes to be 8 digit long, press and hold the 8 button on the keypad. This is all you have to do to change the length of the user code on your Schlage Encode Lock. 

How to Factory Reset Schlage Encode

There are a few reasons why you would want to do a factory reset on your Schlage Encode Lock. Either you are just wanting to start over with your Schlage Encode Lock or reprogramming your smart lock.

Whatever the reason is when you do a factory reset on your Schlage Encode Lock this is clear of any personal settings and returns the smart lock back to the factory settings. Follow these steps to do a factory reset on your Schlage Encode Lock:

1. Remove the battery cover.
2. You will see a black circle button. This is the preset button.
3. Press and hold the reset button, and the LED on the keypad will flash red.
4. Keep holding the reset button until the red flashing stops. 
5. Wait for 10 seconds until the keypad turns LED and turns solid blue. This means the factory reset is complete and you can reprogram your Schlage Encode Lock. 

Note, that doing a factory reset will set the programming code back to the default programming code.
