This article is part of my electronic deadbolt programming guides series. In this one, I will be showing you in detail how to set up a Honeywell Deadbolt.

As I have always said, it is never a good idea to use the default settings on any electronic system. This would make your property vulnerable to security breaches. So let’s dive straight into the step-by-step guide on how to reprogram your Honeywell Deadbolt.

How to Change the Programming Code

When you purchase a Honeywell Digital Deadbolt you will first need to install your new lock to any door of the way that needs to be secure. Once you have installed your Honeywell Digital Deadbolt, to keep your house safer you will want to change the default Programming Code.

When you change the default Programming Code to a code that only you know, that will make sure that no one else besides you can make any changes to your Honeywell Deadbolt. Follow these steps to change the default Programming Code on your Honeywell Digital Deadbolt. 

Step One: Get the default Programming Code that came with your Honeywell Digital Deadbolt, you will need this to change it to the new code that you want. 

Step Two: On the keypad of your Honeywell Deadbolt enter the default Programming Code and press the unlock button

Step Three: On the keypad press 4, after that you are going to press the unlock button. 

Step Four: Put in the new passcode that you have created into the Honeywell Digital Deadbolt keypad, once this is done your new passcode will be set.

Note, that if you have bought your Honeywell Digital Deadbolt used, or from a friend, you will need their programming code that they have set in order to change the Programming Code to the code you want. 

How to Add/Change User Codes

When you have a Honeywell Digital Deadbolt you can set up to 50 User Codes, allowing everyone in the household to make their own personal code. If you have friends and family who visit often they can have their own code as well.

When you have multiple User Codes they will be assorted from 1-50, each user code will be up to 4-8 digits. Follow these steps to change or add a user code to your Honeywell Digital Deadbolt.

Keep in mind that your Honeywell Digital Deadbolt will come with a default user code, 1234, on your ID 1.

You can delete this default code when you enter your first user code, if you have bought the Honeywell Digital Deadbolt used then this default code may already be deleted.  

Step One: You will need your current Programming Code before you change or add a new user. 

Step Two: On your keypad enter your Programming Code and press the Unlock button once. 

Step Three: You will enter a user ID that will be any number between 1-50, choose the number of the User ID you want to change or add. After you have chosen a User ID, press the Unlock button.

Step Four: When you have chosen the User ID number you want to add or change you will enter your new 4 – 8 digit User Code and then press the Unlock button on the keypad. 

Step Five: You will now want to re-enter the new User Code and press the Unlock button on your keypad. 

How to Delete An Existing User Code 

When you have a Honeywell Digital Deadbolt you can delete any User Codes that are on the deadbolt. Follow these steps to delete an existing User Code. 

Step One: On your deadbolts keypad enter your lock’s current Programming Code and then press the Unlock button. 

Step Two: On the keypad, you will want to press the number 2 and press the unlock button.

Step Three: Enter the User ID you want to delete into your Honeywell Digital Deadbolt keypad. Note, your user ID is connected to a User Code. Once you have entered the User ID you want to delete press the Unlock Button.

Step Four: Re-enter the User ID into your keypad and then press the Unlock button. This will delete the User Code that is linked to the User ID on your Honeywell Digital Deadbolt. 

How to Delete All User Codes at Once 

There may be a time when you will want to delete all the User Codes at once. This can be for many reasons, you are selling your Honeywell Digital Deadbolt to replace it with a new one, or you want to clear up space in your deadbolt and want to start new. Whatever your reason is, follow these steps to delete all the Users Codes at once. 

Step One: Enter your current Programming Code and then press the Unlock button on your keypad.

Step Two: On the keypad enter the number 3 and press the Unlock button.

Step Three: Enter your current Programming Code and after pressing the Unlock button, that is all, it is super easy and once you have done this all User Codes will be deleted.

How to Enable Auto-Lock

The Honeywell Digital Lock does give you the option to have an auto-lock, this function will automatically lock your door when it has been unlocked for some time enhancing your home’s security. Follow these steps to enable the auto-lock on your Honeywell Digital Deadbolt. 

Step One: Once again you will need your current Programming Code. Enter your current Programming Code into your keypad and press the Unlock button.

Step Two: On the keypad press the number 5 and after press the Unlock button. 

Step Three: Choose the Time-Delay you want to set on your deadbolt, this can be up to 20-900 seconds. Enter the Time-Delay on the keypad and press the Unlock button to set the Auto-Lock.

How to Enabling/Disabling Vacation Mode 

When you are away from your home for a long period of time and do not want anyone to enter your home, even if they have a User Code, you can Enable the Vacation Mode on your Honeywell Digital Deadbolt.

When your Honeywell Digital Deadbolt is on Vacation Mode all buttons and functions will be invalid, this includes the remote control until the Vacation Mode is Disabled. Follow these steps to Enable your Vacation Mode on your Honeywell Digital Deadbolt. 

Step One: On the keypad, enter your current Programming Code and then press the Unlock button. 

Step Two: Enter the number 10, and press the Unlock button on the keypad.

Step Three: Press the number 1, and press the Unlock button. This will enable your Vacation Mode on your Honeywell Digital Deadbolt. 

Follow these steps to Disable the Vacation Mode on your Honeywell Digital Deadbolt

Step One: On the keypad press and hold the Unlock button for 3 seconds. 

Step Two: After waiting for 3 seconds enter your current Programming Code to unlock your door, this will disable the Vacation Mode. 

How to Reset a Honeywell Digital Deadbolt to Factory Settings

If you are looking to reset your Honeywell Digital Deadbolt back to the Factory Settings follow these easy steps. Before you do this know that once you have done a factory reset this will delete the programming code, all the user codes, and other settings.

Step One: Will will want to remove the battery cover on your Honeywell Digital Deadbolt.

Step Two: Once the battery cover is removed then remove the batteries. 

Step Three: When the batteries are removed wait for 10 seconds. 

Step Four: Put the batteries back into your deadbolt and wait till you hear a long and short beep. 

Step Five: Once you have heard the beep press the Lock button 3 times within 3 seconds. You will see a green indicator light and hear a beep, this means your Honeywell Digital Lock is now reset to the Factory Settings.

Keep in mind that if you only press the Unlock button for more than 3 seconds and do not put the Programming Code in, Vacation Mode will still be Enabled. 

Honeywell Digital Deadbolt Problems and Troubleshooting 

If you are having issues with your Honeywell Digital Deadbolt not working, it could be your batteries. Your Honeywell Digital Deadbolt will not work if your batteries are dead or low power, if you have low-quality batteries this can cause your deadbolt to not work.

You can check to see if the batteries are still active, or you can replace them with new batteries. 

Do not mix old batteries with new batteries this can cause problems. Check to see if the control wire is attached to the Internal Assembly correctly and if the batteries are placed in the right slots.

You do not need to have rechargeable batteries, you can use other batteries as well, however, rechargeable batteries are best to make sure you always have charged batteries in your Honeywell Digital Deadbolt. 

Are you having issues with your Honeywell Deadbolt sticking? This is usually due to the installation screws being too tight. Follow these steps to fix the issue. 

Step One: Deattach the Control Wire and  Remove your Interior Assembly on your Honeywell Digital Deadbolt

Step Two: You will want to find the mounting plate screws and loosen them.

Step Three: Using your physical key unlock and lock your deadbolt. 

Step Four: Now you will reattach the Control Wire and Interior Assembly.
