Why is Eufy Can Not Detecting Motion?
1. Motion Detection on Eufy Cam is Disabled
One of the most common reasons that your Eufy Cam is not detecting motion could be that the Motion Detection is disabled. Obviously, if the motion detection is disabled then your Eufy Cam will not detect any motion.
This is something that you can do inside of the app on your mobile device or desktop. Read below to see how you have enabled your Motion Detection and get your Eufy Cam working once more.
Fix – Enable Motion Detection on Eufy Cam
If the Motion Detection setting on your Eufy Cam is disabled then this can cause your camera to not detect any motion on your property.
This is an easy fix that you can do on the Eufy Home app that is downloaded on your mobile device or desktop. Follow these steps to enable the Motion Detection on your Eufy Cam.
- Go into the Eufy Home app
- On the homepage go into the Camera Setting icon.
- Once in the Camera Settings page find the Motion Detection option.
- Switch motion detection on. If this does not work then follow the next step below.
2. Eufy Camera’s Motion Detection Level Needs to be Tested
After you have made sure the Motion Detection is enabled on your Eufy Cam and you are still not getting any motion detected, the next thing that you should do is test the camera’s motion detection level.
Testing the motion detection level will allow you to determine if you need to adjust the sensitivity of your Eufy Cam and set an activity zone.
This does require you to access your Eufy Camera on the app and go outside so you can see if the camera picks up your motion. Read below to see how you have tested the motion detection level on your Eufy Cam.
Fix – Test Eufy Camera’s Motion Detection Level
To test your Eufy Camera’s motion detection level you will have to go to the camera that is giving you issues and go into your Eufy Home app on your mobile device. Now follow the steps below to test the motion level on your Eufy Cam.
- Go physically stand in front of the Eufy cam that is not detecting motion.
- On your mobile device access the Eufy Home app.
- Tap on the three horizontal lines at the bottom right hand of the screen.
- Select the Camera in question.
- Select the Gear Symbol that pops up.
- Select the Motion Detection box that is below the image of your Eufy Cam.
- Once on the next screen you will select the Motion Test Mode.
- You are now in the Motion Test Mode, look at the camera in the app to visibly determine the motion.
- Move in front of the Camera.
- If the camera detects your motion you will not see a red light on the face of your camera.
Note, if you do not see the red light appear when in the motion test mode then you may have to adjust the sensitivity on the camera. Read below to see how this is done.
3. Eufy Camera’s Sensitivity Level Needs to Be Raised
When you are in the Motion Test Mode on the app and you do not see the red light appear the next thing you should do is raise the sensitivity level.
If the sensitivity level is low on your Eufy Cam this can cause the camera not to detect any motion.
Note, if raising the sensitivity level does not work and you are still experiencing issues with your Eufy Cam not detecting motion you then will want to set an activity zone.
I will be going over how to do this, just read below to see what you should do next.
Fix – Raise Sensitivity Level on Your Eufy Camera/Set Activity Zone
Assuming that you are still in the Motion Test Mode on the Eufy Home app and are still standing in front of the camera that is giving you the issue.
If not then follow the step above to get into the Motion Test Mode. Now follow these steps to increase the sensitivity level of your Euft Camera.
- Still in the Motion Test Mode you will see a Sensitivity Bar on the screen.
- Drag the bar to the right to increase the sensitivity level. If you need to decrease the sensitivity level, slide the bar to the left.
- You will see the red light indicating that it is detecting your motion.
- If the red light still does not come on and you have increased the sensitivity level on your Eufy Cam the next thing you should do is set an activity zone.
- On the Euft Home app at the top left of the screen tap in the Back Arrow.
- Select Activity Zone below Motion Test Mode.
- Touching the box to activate it, adjust the blue transparent box.
- Shape your activity zone by touching and moving the corners of the box.
4. Issues With WiFi Connection
You have now done all the steps above and you are still experiencing your Eufy Cam not detecting motion. The next thing that you should do is check the WiFi connection to your Eufy Cam.
If your Euft Cam does not have a strong connection to WiFi then it may cause issues with the camera. One of these issues is the Euft Cam not detecting motion. There is a way that you can check the WiFi connection on the Eufy App.
Fix – Check WiFi Connection on Your Eufy Cam
Checking the WiFi connection on your Eufy Cam is a couple of easy steps that you can do on the Eufy Home app. If you have a weak WiFi connection or no connection at all this can cause your Eufy Cam to not detect motion. Follow these steps below to check the WiFi in your Eufty Cam.
- Go into the Eufy Home App home screen.
- Tap on the three horizontal lines.
- Select the Camera that is giving you issues.
- Tap on the Gear icon, this will pop up the Settings menu and the status display of your selected camera on the top left.
- You will see the battery status and the WiFi bars at the top. If you are missing any bars this will let you know that you have a weak internet connection.
- Move the camera closer to the router or the router closer to the camera to see if this will give you a better internet connection on your Eufy Cam.
Note, you can also do a reset on your router to see if this will solve your internet connection issue if moving it closer to the camera did not work. Another thing to keep in mind is that if you notice the battery level is low go ahead and charge the Eufy camera’s battery. If the battery is low this can also cause issues with motion detection.
5. Eufy Cam Need to be Rebooted
When you have tried all the options listed above and you are still experiencing your Eufy Cam not detecting motion the next step that you can do is reset the Eufy Cam that is giving you the issue.
Doing a reset may clear any bugs/glitches that may be present in your Eufy Cam. Thankfully this is easy to do and you do not need a professional.
Fix – Reset Eufy Cam
Depending on what Euft Camera you own doing a reboot can be different whether it is a wired or wireless camera. If it is a wired camera all you have to do is unplug the camera from the power source and wait a few seconds before plugging the wire back in.
This will reset your Eufy Cam and can clear any glitches that can be causing the camera not to detect motion. If your Eufy Camera is battery operated then follow these steps.
- Find the “Sync” button, this is usually located on the top of the camera.
- Press and hold the “Sync” button for 15 seconds
- Release the button to reset your Eufy Camera.
If none of these steps have worked you should see if the Eufy Cam needs a firmware update, this may solve the issue of your camera not detecting motions.
If there is a glitch that is causing the issue, doing an update can clear that.
After doing that and if your Eufty Cam is still not detecting motion you should then contact the Eufy Customer Service team and see what they suggest you do next.
With that being said, with this issue being so common the steps above have been known to solve this issue.
