
When the light does not turn orange it means that your Echo Dot is struggling to connect to a wireless network and it can not go into setup mode.
In this guide, I will be going over the reasons why your Echo Dot and ways you can troubleshoot the issue yourself, this can be as easy as a connection issue.
Why Won’t My Echo Dot Turn Orange?
When you see the Orange light on your Echo Dot this means it is entering the setup mode, when you are experiencing the orange light not turning on this can be because it is trying to connect to the internet.
The wireless network connection is the key thing to look at when you are experiencing an issue with the orange light not turning on. These steps below will be going over the reasons why this is happening to your Echo Dot and the fixes you can do yourself.
1. Echo Dot is Trying to Connect to Your Wireless Network
The orange light on your Echo Dot means it is going into be setup mode, the issue that you may be having is that the orange light is not turning on.
This can be because of network issues, meaning that your Echo Dot is trying to connect to your wireless network. When you are experiencing connection issues it will not allow the Echo Dot to go into a setup mode.
The setup mode needs a wireless connection to work, when you are having connection issues this will cause the orange light not to turn on.
Fix – Check Your Wireless Network Connection
When your Echo Dot is going into a setup mode the light will turn orange, if this light does not turn orange it could be because it is not connecting to your wireless network.
Checking your wireless network is the first thing you should do when your Echo Dot light is not turning orange. See if the connection is good, if there are any issues with your wireless network.
It could be an issue with your wireless network provider and you have to wait until they fix it. Or it can be as easy as moving your Echo Dot closer to your router.
Having your Echo Dot close to your WIFI router is smart to do to ensure it is getting the best connection possible. If your Echo Dot is not in your WIFI range this can cause your Echo Dot to not connect to the internet.
2. Issues With Your Router
If you are experiencing issues with your orange light not turning on your Echo Dot it can be because it is not connecting to your wireless network. Make sure the Echo Dot is within range of your WIFI router.
If the Echo Dot is not within range of your router this will cause connection issues. If you are still experiencing connection issues even though you put your Echo Dot near the router, it could be the router itself.
If your router is having issues with not connecting to your Echo Dot there is a way you can try to fix these issues without having to contact your wireless network provider.
Note, if this does not work and you are experiencing internet connection issues in your home, not just your Echo Dot you may have to contact your wireless network provider to see if there is an issue on their side.
Fix – Restart Your Router
Experiencing internet connection issues one of the first things you should do is restart your router. Restarting the router can refresh your connection and may fix the connection problem you are having. Follow these steps to restart your router.
- Unplug the router first.
- Unplug the modem.
- Leave unplugged for over 30 seconds
- Plug in the modem
- Plug in the router
- Wait no less than 5 minutes to try to connect your Echo Dot to the internet.
3. Wrong WIFI Password
A wrong WIFI password can be why your Echo Dot light is not turning orange. If the device recognizes your wireless network but is still not connecting after you have checked to see if the network issues are fixed.
If the WIFI on your phone is working but your Echo Dot is still not connecting to your wireless network it can be as simple as not putting in the correct password. Thankfully that is an easy thing to check and correct.
Fix – Check to See if You Are Putting In the Correct WIFI Password
There could be a chance the reason why your Echo Dot is not connecting to your wireless network which is causing the orange light not to turn on, could be because of a wrong WIFI Password.
Even if you put in the password you know for sure is the right one you have created, it could be updated to a new one. You can update your password on the Alexa app. Make sure you choose a password only you know.
Once you have updated the new password try connecting your Echo Dot to your wireless network and see if that did the trick.
4. Echo Dot Needs A Restart/Reset
When you have tried everything to connect your Echo Dot to your wireless network and you are still not connecting and the orange light is still not turning on, your Echo Dot may need to be restarted or even needs a factory reset.
Restarting your echo dot could give the device the refresh it needed. If that does not work you may have to do a factory reset on the Echo Dot this will have you start from the beginning and maybe the trick on setting up your Echo Dot.
Fix – Restart/Factory Reset Your Echo Device
Restarting your Echo Dot is as easy as turning the device off, waiting a few seconds, and turning the device back on. If this does not work and the orange light is still not coming on your Echo Dot you can also do a factory reset.
Doing a factory reset will reset all the settings on your Echo Dot having you start from the beginning. Doing a factory reset depends on what generation of Echo Dot you have. Follow the steps below to do a factory reset on your Echo Dot.
1st Generation Echo Dot Factory Reset
- Go to your Echo Dot
- At the bottom on the device you will see the reset button
- You will need a paper clip to press the reset button
- Wait to see the light turn off and back on again
2nd, 3rd,4th, and 5th Generation Echo Dot Factory Reset
- Go to your Echo Dot
- Press down and hold the volume down button and microphone off button for 20 seconds.
- Wait for the light to turn off and back on.
- This will make your Echo Dot go into setup mode, meaning the orange light should turn on.
5. Faulty Echo Dot Device
If you have done everything from checking your wireless network connection, restarting your router, and doing a factory reset on your Echo Dot it could be a faulty device. A faulty device can happen from time to time.
This can be if you have had it over time or if it is a newly bought device there could be technical issues with the device. Check your warranty to see if you can get one replaced before buying a new one.
Another thing you should do is contact the support team to see if there is anything they can help with before you replace the Echo Dot
Fix – Contact Support/Replace Your Echo Dot
If you have tried everything and the orange light on your Echo Dot is still not turning on then contact the support team to see if there is anything they can do.
If there is nothing the support team can not do then look at your warranty to see if you can get it replaced. This is the last resort after trying everything you can do.
